Halton Housing and Open Door have officially taken ownership of their largest independent living scheme, Hazlehurst, after building works to the 100one and two bedroom apartments were completed at the end of last month.

Built by Vistry Partnerships North West, Hazlehurst is located on Actons Wood Lane in Sandymoor Runcorn. It offers modern spacious, self-contained apartments with extensive communal facilities, including multi-function rooms and a contemporary bistro. The development provides an ideal option for anyone whose home no longer meets their existing needs, or for those who want peace of mind for the future should their lifestyle change.
Hazlehurst forms part of Halton Housing’s ambitious plans to build 1000 much-needed new homes by 2027, helping to tackle the national housing crisis.
There are 44 two-bedroom apartments available on a Shared Ownership basis.
Customers will be welcomed into their new homes by the Hazlehurst team who were recruited over the Summer. The team will be headed up by Rose Armstrong, Independent Living Manager, who has worked with Halton Housing for several years across their Widnes schemes, Naughton Fields and Barkla Fields.
Rebecca Lawrence, Head of Sales at Open Door, said:
“I am delighted that the doors to Hazlehurst are now open, and we look forward to welcoming customers to the development over the coming months. The team has worked extremely hard to bring the vision to life over the last 24 months and it is fantastic to take handover of the building, providing affordable home ownership opportunities to those over 55.”
Ian Hilliker, Managing Director for Vistry Partnerships North West, said:
“We’re very pleased to have reached the formal handover stage of Hazlehurst, having constructed this high quality new independent living scheme for our partner Halton Housing. Providing affordable homes in a range of tenures – including homes for later living – is essential if we’re to properly combat the nation’s housing shortage, and we hope that the residents enjoy their new homes.”
Hazlehurst is named after local businessman Thomas Hazlehurst who founded soap and alkali manufacturing company, Hazlehurst & Sons in 1816.
An official opening ceremony is planned for early 2023.
