Nantwich is a great place to buy a home. If you’re looking for a town with history, charm, and lots of character, Nantwich has it all!

This beautiful market town in Cheshire has Tudor and Georgian architecture, a vibrant community, and tons of independent shops. Quirky and friendly, with lots to do, Nantwich is the perfect town!

Here are some of the best places to visit, eat, and explore in Nantwich.

The beautiful town centre

Wander through Nantwich, and you’ll feel like you’ve stepped back in time - the town square is gorgeous with its medieval timber-framed buildings and St. Mary’s Church.

Need a good book and a coffee? The family-run Nantwich Book Shop is an amazing place to hang out and browse the books.

For cheese lovers, The Cheese Shop is heaven. It stocks hundreds of varieties, and it also hosts regular tasting events.

There are Morrisons, Sainsbury’s and Aldi supermarkets, an M&S Food Hall, plus Seabreeze Fishmongers, a proper fish shop selling all kinds of fresh fish and seafood.

Nantwich canal and marina

For a gentle stroll, the Nantwich Canal and Marina is gorgeous. You can hire boats for the day, go on boating holidays and watch the canalside goings-in at the marina café.

Nantwich baths and outdoor brine pool

This isn’t your bog-standard swimming pool—it’s the UK’s only inland saltwater pool. Since 1935, Nantwich baths and outdoor brine pool has been popular with locals who enjoy outdoor swimming, but make sure you book in advance.

Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker

Because every great town needs a Cold War bunker! A must-see for history buffs, Hack Green Secret Nuclear Bunker is full of military gear and fantastic exhibitions. It’s great for kids, with lots of interactive, hands-on displays.

Snugburys Ice Cream Farm

Famous throughout Cheshire for its homemade ice cream, Snugbury’s is a 10-minute drive from Nantwich. It’s perfect for kids, and you can wander in the field and gaze up at their huge bee sculpture.

Festivals and events

Nantwich loves a good festival, and there’s always something going on. Here are a few of the best:

The Nantwich Jazz, Blues and Music Festival

Every Easter weekend, the town comes alive with music. The Nantwich Jazz, Blues and Music Festival attracts big names like Thea Gilmore, and most venues host something special.

The Nantwich Show

Held every July, The Nantwich Show is the UK’s largest one-day agricultural show. Expect tractors, livestock displays, dog shows, cookery demos, competitions, and entertainment.

Nantwich Food Festival

The Nantwich Food Festival in August brings together street food, live entertainment, and top chefs for a weekend of eating, indulgence and fun. If you love food, don’t miss it!

Nantwich markets

Nantwich has been a market town since 1500, and today, the tradition continues. The market runs on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, plus there’s a Farmers’ Market on the last Saturday of the month, as well as specialist markets, including antiques.

Eating and drinking

Nantwich has an excellent food and drink scene for a small town with Italian, Mexican, Thai, Chinese, Greek, traditional British, tapas, and fusion restaurants.

There’s such a big choice of places to eat and drink, but here’s a selection:

  • Deadwood Smokehouse – This is the place for you if you love BBQ flavours. Think American-style slow-cooked ribs, burgers, and lots of smoked and pulled meats.

  • Ginger and Pickles - Amazing bakehouse selling homemade bread, cakes and pastries. Their Bakewell tart is one of the best around.

  • Romazzino – A local favourite for authentic Italian cuisine.

  • Chopstix – A legendary Chinese restaurant that also does takeaway. It’s that good, people drive for up to 20 minutes just to get a takeaway!

  • The Nest – A cool cocktail bar run by Three Wren’s Distillery, one of the UK’s most awarded gin producers. They also offer tasting experiences where you can make your own gin and tours.

  • Ebenezer’s – A friendly craft beer bar with a changing selection of ales and lagers.

Walks and nature

If you love the outdoors, Nantwich has some beautiful spots to explore.

Nantwich Lake

On the edge of town, Nantwich Lake is a lovely spot for a gentle walk or picnic.

Nantwich Riverside Loop

As mentioned, this 3-mile circular walk takes in canals, rivers, and meadows; it’s the perfect way to soak up the area’s gorgeous scenery.
